One Loaf at a Time Employability Programme

Our ‘One Loaf at a Time’ employability course is a 4-week programme combining baking & employability.

Our course in the Shieldfield Bakery runs every Monday and Tuesday from 10 – 2pm. The days are split between baking and taking an in-depth at your journey into employment or further training- as a group and also on a 1-2-1 basis.

This is a real hands-on practical programme bringing people together to support the pathway into employment. Whether or not you want a career in baking – this course will help with confidence building as well as practical help into employment.

Our programme is accredited with the ASDAN accreditation body, and all our trainees will receive a certificate for the skills/ competencies demonstrated during the programme. Participants will also have the opportunity to take the Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate.

Please note – we are a small bakery and cannot offer paid employment at the end of this course – but we can support you into finding employment.


To be eligible for our Tyneside programme you must live in the post-code boundary as per the attached map (areas below the red lines). We also have a similar programme based in our Teesside Bakery.

You must be unemployed and in receipt of Universal Credit or classed as inactive. We cannot support people in full time education.

You must have the right to live and work in the UK.
